Our Solution
To start with the foil stamping on the cover, we work according to the file received from the client while it came out that the gold foil covers the artwork fully, which is not the expectation of our client.
We found the foil and artwork were 100% overlapped at the stage of the testing round if we follow the original file from the client. What’s worse, the binding failed to be neat when trim.
We proposed two options to our client to work out this problem.
- The 1st option is to address the issue of the foil. we revise the file to achieve the expected effect based on our previous experience with the client. This relies on the mature and professional experience of our production people and trust between the client and us.
- The 2nd option is for the binding. We reduce the quantity of each small round to ensure we bind the book trimly even though it will push us more pressure on the tight schedule.
The Procedure and the Ultimate Result
With the updated file and careful trim, the gold foil matches as expected and the binding was extremely neat finally. The binding looks perfect compared with the one in testing, which is obvious as present in the picture below.
For insurance, we worked on a blank dummy to check the binding works better by reducing the trim quantity in each round. It shows that our option is super successful with a very tidy binding eventually.
In the end, our client approved the file revised by us for the bulk press and was very grateful for our help on file and efficient production. We are so proud that the product is now on the shelf in our client’s store with a beautiful gold foil look.
