COVID-19 has been going on for three years, and there is no telling when it will end. Some people spend more time at home, and board games are certainly a good toy for them to spend their time. Due to the rapid increase in market demand for board games, many wholesalers want to know some information about board games, and Yimi Paper, as a producer of board games, comes to tell you some things about board game production.
Board games are generally stored in heaven and earth boxes, with a game board, cards, dice, plastic, and wood as the main component. They are mainly distinguished from traditional table games such as poker, chess, mahjong, and pai gow.
Board games are generally designed by designers and then handed over to factories for board game production and final sale. Board game production factories are mainly located along the coast of China, with a small number of them living inland. They have powerful printing presses, workshops, and other professional equipment, and a large number of industrial workers. The ones doing well inside are WINGO, PANDA, LONG PACK, and several other companies.
Yimi Paper has had 14 years of experience in the board game production and sales of board games since 2008, and we have been praised by many customers for our high-efficiency production level, one-stop quality service, and high-quality products.
According to data, the cost of board game production in the United States is approximately 7 times that of China; the majority of the cost is the wages of the workers. Therefore, many board game designers and sales companies around the world come to China to look for cooperation. Yimi Paper takes care of the board game production, and some of those who don’t have the design come to us to help design and establish long-term cooperation with us.
The process of board game production
In the whole process, what the board game production manufacturer does is print, produce, and productize the product design submitted by the publisher. The general process is: first pass several contacts to determine product requirements; then quotation for the product; negotiation and confirmation of the details of the manuscript and layout; on the machine printing, production or procurement of wood, and plastic accessories; assembly and logistics delivery.

Pricing for the board game production.
The pricing of board games mainly includes production costs, promotion costs, labor costs, other costs, and finally the profit. In this process, the customer chooses the material; the size is different; the production cost will be different, and then the pricing will be different. If this board game manufacturer is not an established company, then one of its costs will be higher and the price will be higher. In recent years, the price of paper as a raw material for board games has become more and more expensive, and coupled with the rising wages of workers and the increased cost of employing people, it has made the pricing of board games higher.
Sharing of board game production knowledge
- Inconsistency in color format
Nowadays, many board game designs are drawn by computer, and the color format RGB is generally adopted. That is, the three primary colors of the picture tube are red, green, and blue, and all the images we see on the electronic screen are composed of these small dots. But when printing, the printing machine uses the CMYK printing color format, which, simply put, can be understood as four nozzles spraying cyan, magenta, yellow, and black four colors superimposed on the printing screen. So in the printing process, you need to flip the picture format once. The main problem here is that the screen will be luminous while the printing will not, so all the fluorescent colors inside the figure will be lost and bright colors will be compromised. The shaped card-cutting die needs to be paid for separately.
A knife mold is used to cut the deck, so try not to design shaped cards, special sizes, or oval lightning-shaped or star-shaped cards. If you cut such a card, you will need to pay extra money to make the knife mold. Generally speaking, the most common card size is 63*88 mm, which is also the standard size of cards. If you choose this size, the factory has this die, so you don’t need to make a separate die, and you don’t need to pay for it.
- Bleeding bit
Bleeding means that the bleeding in printing refers to the pattern of increasing the outer side of the product by adding some pattern extensions to the cutting bit, specifically for each production process within its process tolerance, in order to avoid the finished product after cutting showing white edges or being cut to the content. The bleeding bit is the part of the printing to retain the effective content of the screen set aside to facilitate cutting. To prevent excessive cutting errors, resulting in cutting off important content or leaving white edges, we have to consider the error of printing and cutting. Therefore, we will add a reserved part of 1-3 mm (usually 3 mm) around the finished design.
Finally, a warm reminder: before printing the board game, you must ensure that the document is accurate, which can save you a large amount of money, such as printing the wrong board game box shipping costs as well as the possibility of delaying the best sales time.
Of course, at Yimi Paper Printing Board Games we will remind you to proofread the document and help you check it over, but you still need to proofread it carefully yourself to make sure it is correct.
