Nowadays, people increasingly rely on high-tech electronic products. Will paper books be replaced by e-books? I think the majority of people’s answer would still be no. The reason is simple: even with the advancement of technology, it can never replace humans’ real touch of paper books and the sense of smell brought by wood pulp and paper making, which are particularly important in the reading process.
Taking the production of children’s books, which we have the most experience with, as an example, it will never be replaced by electronic products. Early childhood education for infants is an important step in human development, and in the current era of diversified education, there are more ways for babies to first touch knowledge through their hands when they cannot recognize most information.
For example, in a letter card book project, we made for another client, each letter has a corresponding-shaped paper card. During the early stages of infant learning, parents or early childhood teachers may use repeated pronunciation to help the baby remember the pronunciation of a certain letter. Combined with this paper-shaped book, the baby’s auditory and tactile senses can work together to achieve more dimensional effects.
In addition to their role in environmental protection and sustainability, paper books also have a particularly crucial feature that cannot be replaced, which is the deep reading experience they bring. In some plot novel printing projects, our customers may request the use of different materials of paper according to their corresponding content on specific pages, to provide readers with a more immersive reading experience and to feel the different tactile sensations brought by different materials of paper while reading. And these are things that electronic reading cannot present.
